Biography
Talking about one's self is difficult, but, when in the art industry it is helpful for an art buyer to be informed about the artist. So following is a bit about myself “B.J. Ritchie”, wife, mom, sister, and grandma. I am a fifth generation Texan, now residing in San Marcos, Texas, and am a representational painter. All of my life I have loved and been involved in some form of art but have worked in oils professionally for the past 35 years. I am self-taught, by trial and error you might say, and, never ending observation and study.
If you are interested, I was commissioned by former Texas Speaker of the House Billy Clayton to paint two large paintings depicting Texas 1936-1986. The paintings were exhibited in the Texas State Capitol during the Texas Sesquicentennial. Prints of these paintings are now owned by numerous people throughout the State of Texas.
Among my accomplishments, I am privileged to be included in the prestigious western art book "Contemporary Western Artists”, written by Peggy and Harold Samuels. Twice I have been honored by being nominated Texas Artist of the Year and each time one of the 12 finalist. The Franklin Mint commissioned me to paint a stage coach to be reproduced in a collectible plate project depicting modes of travel in the old west. Having had many exhibits and one-artist shows, my work is owned by collectors throughout the United States, Germany, Belgium and France.
I enjoy working in my studio by the pond in San Marcos where my work is currently displayed.
Sincerely,
B.J.
